A transcritical CO2 condensing unit is a refrigeration system that utilizes carbon dioxide (CO2) as the refrigerant and operates in a transcritical cycle. In a transcritical cycle, the refrigerant undergoes both subcritical and supercritical phases during the refrigeration process. Unlike traditional refrigerants such as hydrochlorofluorocarbons (HCFCs) or hydrofluorocarbons (HFCs), CO2 is a natural refrigerant with low global warming potential (GWP) and zero ozone depletion potential (ODP), making it environmentally friendly. In a transcritical CO2 condensing unit, CO2 is compressed to high pressures and temperatures, then cooled in a gas cooler or gas cooler/liquid cooler combination to remove heat and condense it back into a liquid state.
